After downloading & installing keygen for CuteFTP, caused PC to crash.
Used to connect to 'novell' servers. 99% of people dont need this. Many people experience problems when windows stops loading at mup.sys during bootup. Can be fixed by booting with CD and repairing, or by the 'disable mup' command.
Mup.sys This is the driver for the Multiple UNC Provider, which determines which network client protocol to use when the target server is specified by a UNC path such as \\Server_Name. / Boswells Q&A Mup.sys is the service to connect to Novell servers.

Installed Win XP Pro onto a HD hanging off an ATA133 controller card. Removing the card, and connecting the hard disk directly to the mobo removed this problem.
Multiple UNC Provider: This is a required network driver, and is completely harmless.
its a pile of pooo
People with Mup.sys problem should definitely uninstall DAEMON TOOLS from their computer, if they have it there.
My problem with mup.sys seems to be a RAM issue. I installed a ATA133 controller card and a 2nd 1gb stick of RAM, which I know my mobo can handle. I got the hang at loading mup.sys I took the controller out and left the ram, and it still hung. I removed the RAM and reconnected the controller card and booted just fine. I tried the RAM again to no avail. So whenever I add this 2nd gb of RAM I get the mup.sys hang. Going to have to look into this further

PC did not boot due to an error with mup.sys . Switched it off, disconnected it from power supply, after 1 minute connected it again and windows booted without error. strange :-/ Will replace pc as soon as possible...
A power surge appeared to knock out my hard drive. When trying to boot into safe mode, the computer hangs on or after loading the mup.sys driver. Recovery console is unable to detect c drive as a legitimate drive, giving the error: "drive cannot be enumerated". Damaged hard drive in new system brings the same error. New hard drive and new xp installation in old system brings the same error. Odd.. Still looking for a solution, but thinking mup.sys may only be the obvious culprit in a long list of culprits..
i continuously get put on group networking. All ownership taken from me. I can only read and write. My spyware gets taken over along with everything on my pc. Ive also lost my volume control. Pc is only 2 months old

Best practices for resolving mup issues

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with mup. Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the 6resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the 7DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.
