It is the primary component in the Microsoft Online Services Sign-In Assistant (MOS SIA), installed in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Microsoft Online Services", either by the end-user from Microsoft Office 365 Online Setup or via network deployment by administrators. Two dynamic link library files, "msoidcli.dll" and the language-localized error messages in "msoidres.dll", are installed in the same folder. An additional "watchdog" process named "msoidsvcm.exe" that monitors "msoidsvc.exe" is launched when it starts. For Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows, installation is slightly different. The Sign-In Assistant handles authentication of the user's subscription to log into the Office 365 Cloud, also obtaining a personal certificate needed for Lync to access the Lync Online Cloud. The role of "Msoidsvc.exe" is to execute the actual logons and service ticket requests to AD FS and Microsoft Online Services authentication servers.
