Canon Pixma MP190 software crippled my XP SP3 machine, this service is one of the culprits

It is an optional install with Canon printers if you don't want to send canon information it can be safely stopped

it appeared after I installed Canon printer
Canon PIXMA communications driver service. Core service installed by the drivers for your Canon PIXMA printer and which handles the transmission of data between your PC and the printer.
I have the Canon MX 310 all-in-one, and everyone here has it, so it's relatively harmless

This program is not required. It was Added by Canon printer software. This software will collect information such as printer's id number, installation date and time, ink use information, number of sheets printers, etc. It will then send this information to Canon after a certain amount of time. This startup entry is installed as a Windows service.
It stalled some of my programs, and then gave me the message that it was used by Canon to monitor my printer for help with marketing decisions, the message gave me the option to unstall it. I later did so using Revo Uninstaller. This has caused no problems. I'd say it's basically benign, but who wants extra resources used for no useful purpose? Unless you want to help Canon in its marketing decisions?
It was using 20% of the CPU capacity on my laptop for hours on end even while the machine was otherwise idle.
